Donated To Science Wins Best Director

Director Paul Trotman recently won Best Director at the New Zealand Documentary Festival - Well done Paul.

The Sound Room recently completed the score for the TV3 and festival release documentary "Donated To Science".  The documentary screened in New Zealand initially on TV3 Wednesday 18th November 9:30pm to rave reviews...

“Proof that primetime television can take on the big complicated stuff… excellent and moving.”  NZ Listener

“As wracked with emotion and the collywobbles as any cliff-hanger episode of a television medical drama.”  Frances Grant, NZ Herald

“The direction, the editing, the style of the documentary were all of such a high standard that minutes into the programme, you knew you were watching something special, something literally cutting edge… extraordinarily profound.”  Jane Bowron, Dominion Post

‘One of the best I’ve seen… a breath of fresh air… an extraordinary thing… very very moving… very poignant’, ‘beyond just a medical documentary… an absorbing piece’ Simon Wilson, NZ National Radio

People have been interested in what goes on inside their bodies for thousands of years.

From public autopsies in ancient Rome to the recent Bodyworlds exhibition seen by a massive 26 million people, making it the most popular touring exhibition in the world. Ever.

But what about the donors?  What do the people who give their bodies to medical schools for dissection think about what they are doing? What do their families think? What is it like as a young medical student of only eighteen, to see, touch, and feel a real body for the first time and then to cut it up?  Do medical students learn more than just anatomy from doing dissection?

This film answers all of these questions and takes us in to an area only a privileged few enter; the dissection room of a major medical school, and the insides of our own bodies.

Directed and produced by Dr Paul Trotman for TV3 and festival release in 2009.
