Biography

The Sound Room partnership is Tom Fox and Marshall Smith and was established in 2003. The partnership composes and produces music for film, TV, artists and bands.

Tom and Marshall have composed and produced music for film and documentary for Morgan Freeman & ESPN, the BBC, Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, BSkyB, ABC, Channel 10, TVNZ, TV3, Maori TV and SABC amongst many others.

Their tracks have been featured in the USA, UK and Europe on channels like MTV, Nickelodeon, VH-1, Discovery and Fox and have been recorded by the London Philharmonic Orchestra with David Arnold (James Bond, Massive Attack...).

They recently composed the new Lotto and Big Wednesday themes for NZ Lotteries along with music for advertising, games, ringtones and animation for clients such as Annabel Langbein, Mobil, Crown Lager, Metropolitan Life, United Travel, The Globe Theatre (UK), The Edge, Cirkus Animation, Pixelthis and Vodafone.

The Sound Room has 15+ international publishing deals and regularly collaborates with writers in the UK, USA, France, South Africa and Australia.

Tom has been part of a number of chart topping songs. Weeping, a song originally recorded and sung when he was a member of the band Bright Blue was recorded by multi-platinum selling artist Josh Groban and produced by Glen Ballard. This album went to #1 on the US charts and to date has sold in excess of 4 million copies.

During 2011 Marshall was granted a Professional Development Award from the NZ Film Commission and has won a number of international songwriting awards along with being a finalist for song of the year in the APRA Silver Scrolls in 2004.  He also presents the live draw of Big Wednesday for NZ Lotteries in Wellington.

The Sound Room has a newly built recording studio in Takapuna and another project studio also on the North Shore in Auckland with a range of other studios at their disposal for larger projects if required.
